Book Seminar | Conference of the Birds
Join us for a reading and discussion of Farid al-Din Attar’s Conference of the Birds (منطق الطير), one of the pinnacles of Islamic literature. The discussion, facilitated by Scholar-in-Residence Nariman Aavani, will cover the second part* of the book to continue exploring key concepts such as self-knowledge, love, and virtue.
This twelfth century Persian mystical poem narrates the journey of a group of birds in search of their king, Sīmurgh. Guided by the wise Hoopoe, the birds must traverse seven valleys to reach Sīmurgh, who dwells on the mythical mountain Qāf. Each valley presents a unique challenge, and it is through overcoming their inner weaknesses that the birds can progress on their path.
